1. Can anybody be hypnotised?

Most people can be hypnotised, some more easily than others. A very few simply cannot let themselves relax sufficiently for hypnosis to work.

2. How will I be hypnotised?

Simply by speaking to you calmly, quietly and slowly, Adrian will help you enter into such a deep and pleasant state of relaxation that your subconscious mind will be ready to accept suggestions for beneficial change.

3. Will I be asleep?

No. Some people describe being in hypnosis as similar to that very pleasant half way stage we enter just before falling asleep: a state of utter and complete peace and relaxation.

4. Will I be aware of what's happening?

Yes. You will be totally aware of everything that's going on.

5. Can I be made to say or do anything I don't want to?

No. You are totally in control of yourself while in hypnosis.

6. Can I get 'stuck' in hypnosis?

No. There is not a single example of this in the history of hypnosis.

7. Is hypnosis dangerous in any way?

Anyone suffering from a psychotic condition or epilepsy, and recent heart attack or stroke sufferers should consult their GP before seeking hypnotherapy. Children and pregnant women should also seek specialist advice.

8. Will I give away secrets under hypnosis?

No. You will retain complete control over your thought processes.

9. Is Hypnosis good for improving performance?

Yes. It's the best form of therapy for improvement in all areas of life including:

  • Career
  • Sport
  • Examinations
  • Memory and concentration
  • Driving
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Stage performance
  • Sexual performance

10. How many sessions will I need?

It varies with each person. Smoking cessation takes just one session, while complex conditions requiring hypnoanalysis may require six to ten sessions, sometimes even more. Most conditions require from three to six sessions.

11. How long does each session last?

Sessions usually last around one hour, except for smoking cessation, which lasts from 90-120 minutes.

12. Is hypnotherapy always successful?

It has about the same success rate as any other form of medical treatment, whether orthodox or complementary.

13. Does the effect last?

Changes made to your fundamental belief system will last forever. Suggestion therapy may be just a 'sticking plaster' unless there is full co-operation between therapist and client.

14. My own condition does not appear on your list; what can I do?

Adrian Walker treats a wide range of conditions, not all of which can appear here, and there are very few which haven't been encountered before, or for which treatment therapies do not exist. He will discuss your problem with you at length until you both agree the strategy most likely to succeed.

15. What protection do I have?

Adrian Walker is affiliated to most recognised clinical bodies in his field of complementary medicine, and these are listed elsewhere on the website. He is bound by their strict codes of ethics. For examples of these go to http://www.aphp.co.uk/ethics.php or www.hypnotherapysociety.com code of ethics. He also has full professional indemnity insurance.
